Ferencak, A., and Kopp, M., (2000). Implementation of safer chemotherapy systems utilized in the VA medical. Poster Presentation at ASHP Midyear; P1-152.

A total of 19 pharmacists and nurses that prepare and administer hazardous drugs were selected to participate in a study to assess their perception on feeling safe and the advantages of using the PhaSeal system after 60 days of its implementation. The health care workers were all trained on how to use PhaSeal prior to beginning the study. Following the 60 days, a survey was conducted and if any of the staff did not perceive the advantages of using the PhaSeal system, they were all trained one on one to further explore the benefits of PhaSeal.  The results of the study were employees that work consistently with hazardous drugs understood the advantages of using the PhaSeal system and felt safer with it being implemented than those that infrequently worked with hazardous drugs and utilized the system less regularly. The implications for this study conclude that health care workers that work with hazardous drugs regularly feel safer and are able to recognize the benefits of utilizing the PhaSeal system, than those who do not.
